What is the difference between biweekly and semi-monthly pay?

Biweekly means every two weeks (26 paychecks per year), while semi-monthly means twice per month, usually the 1st and 15th (24 paychecks per year). Biweekly paychecks are slightly smaller since there are more of them, but you get two "extra" paychecks per year. Some months with biweekly pay include three paychecks, which can be helpful for budgeting or debt payoff.

How does a 401(k) contribution affect my paycheck?

Traditional 401(k) contributions are deducted before taxes are calculated, reducing your taxable income.
